International Motocross stars come together at the Oceania Motocross Championships
16-10-2007
The international stars of motocross racing will descend upon Barrabool, Geelong in the last weekend of October (27-28) in a bid to take out the winner’s podium at the 2007 Oceania Motocross Championships.
Current Australian Pro Lites motocross champion Jake Moss (Yamaha) will be returning from the US to lead a charged-up Australian team, which will also include multiple Australian champion Craig Anderson (Honda), former Motocross of Nations team member Cheyne Boyd (Yamaha), along with brothers Jay and Ryan Marmont (KTM) who will race each other for the first time ever.
Leading the New Zealand field will be world motocross No. 3 Josh Coppins (Yamaha), who claimed Pro Open honours at Barrabool in 2005, along with former Australian Pro Open champion, Daryl Hurley (Suzuki).
However, it’s not just trans-Tasman rivalry that will heat up the track this year. California’s, Ryan “Ryno” Hughes (Suzuki) has decided to throw a curve ball from the United States, backing himself to create chaos amongst both the Australian and New Zealand teams.
A three-time winner of the Motocross des Nations, the last time in 2000, Hughes believes that, “The Aussies and the Kiwis might like to beat Americans, but we Americans like to beat everybody and I am coming down under to win!”
The spectacular open-flowing Barrabool track is just 15 minutes from Geelong and is known in motocross circles for its unforgiving terrain and challenging twists and turns. The track itself is situated on land owned by motorcycle-loving Clive McAdam, who passed away a few years ago. The SMCC is hoping to buy the property with several fundraising activities planned; the OMXC is the club’s big-ticket item.
