Aussie youngster ready to keep motocross trophy in Australia
15-10-2007
In 2007, Australian motocross youngster, Tye Simmonds became the first person ever to win three separate classes at the Australian Junior Motocross Championships and now he has his sights set on taking home the trophy at the 2007 Oceania Motocross Championships (Oct 27-28) set for Barrabool, Geelong.
The 15 year-old motocross champion from Bourke NSW, began his career on the bike at the age of five and by seven, had hit the competition circuit with the support of his uncle and his dad. Tye has since gone onto hold a glory cupboard that any motocross veteran would be proud off.
2007 has already proved to be a phenomenal year for Simmonds, winning the Australian Supercross Championship Junior Lites and placing an outstanding 3rd in the World Mini Bike Championship Loretta Lynns, arguably the biggest amateur race in the world.
“I was stoked that I even got the chance to race in the Junior Champs because I only just got over a broken ankle”, said Simmonds.
“So the fact I get to race in the Oceania Championships as well is pretty cool.
“I’m excited to scope out the older riders because they’re the blokes I have looked up to and admired for years, although the ultimate would be to meet Ricky Carmichael!”
The Oceania Championships is set to be Simmonds last competition in Australia for a while, after which he is set to move to the States to concentrate further on his riding career. Competing for the Motorex KTM Junior Racing Team, the Aussie grommet is sure to be the most feared contender for the junior race in Barrabool and may be just what is needed to keep the motocross trophy on Australia’s shores.
Simmonds and the rest of the Aussie team including Pro Lite Champion, Jake
Moss (Yamaha), the all-star Marmont brothers (Motorex KTM), multiple Australian
Champion Craig Anderson (Honda) and Kristy Gillespie (Motorex KTM) are set for
a massive weekend of racing at Mc Adam Park, with all riders ready to show New
Zealand just who’s in charge of motocross.
