Oceania Motocross ready to roar at Barrabool in October 2007!

14-05-2007

Barrabool - 2005

The 2007 Oceania Motocross Championships will be staged at McAdam Park on October 27th and 28th. The Sporting Motor Cycle Club will host the event at Barrabool Victoria, with the date confirmed today by Australia’s governing body of Motorcycle sport, Motorcycling Australia.

Josh Coppins, the current leader in this years MX1 World Motocross Championship, has again thrown his support behind the yearly Trans Tasman Motocross battle by confirming he will compete. Josh captained the New Zealand team at the 2005 OMXC held at McAdam Park, and although he easily won both of his moto’s, the Australian team won overall. Speaking of his last visit, Josh was full of praise for the Barrabool event,” I can’t see how you could change a thing (to make it better). This track is at World GP level as it is”.

With the future of McAdam Park still uncertain after 2007, the success of this event will be paramount in saving McAdam Park from becoming nothing more than a memory. With the date now settled, Sporting M.C.C. is now looking forward to staging an event of an even bigger magnitude than the highly successful 2005 event.

Club Operations Manager, Peter Ovens says, “I can’t wait to finally get this show on the road! We said we were going to host the event again for the people, and we are. With Josh agreeing to help us again, everything is finally coming together for an event that will even eclipse the last one in ’05. If the fans thought that was good, wait till they see what we have lined up for ’07!”

The club is continuing to fight for existence in its quest to save the Barrabool complex. After some successful negotiating in the past 12 months, and expressions of support from both government and industry, Sporting MCC are now aiming at securing all 3 lots, or 300 acres of the original McAdam Park farm.

Ovens added, “We are now aiming high because we know we have half a chance, and these opportunities only come along once! The timing of the Oceania is perfect, it will keep the spotlight on Barrabool, and hopefully everyone will give us the support we need so we can be here next year and keep churning out great events and great riding opportunities for riders from all over. We have some great plans ahead for this place!”

More details will be released soon regarding plans for this years Oceania MX. For all the latest news go to www.oceaniamx.com
