No wall too high for Barrabool!

06-07-2007

The Sporting Motor Cycle Club is proud to announce the re-launch of the “Big Picture” Wall website, which is the club’s major fundraiser in the campaign to save the icon Motocross track, McAdam Park, Barrabool.

After a year of frustration trying to “make a silk purse from a sow’s ear” the club is pleased to say the Big Picture Wall is now up for viewing as it was always supposed to be!

Club Operations manager, Peter Ovens says of the Wall, “Now people can see the whole of the Wall the way it was meant to be! The basic concept is we have a website, with a mosaic picture of 10,000 ceramic tiles on the Wall, which people can sponsor and get their name on forevermore, to show they did something to help save this icon of Australian Motocross tracks.”

The S.M.C.C. club has had some nerve racking times of late in it’s efforts to raise the several million dollars needed to buy the land the track is on. Extra support from the people is what the club is relying on to secure the future of McAdam park, as this year each extra day has been a life saver for the club. A lifeline was thrown to the club at the beginning of 2007 in the form of an extra 12 months lease. Now, the club that has put on some of the country’s best ever Motocross events is crying out for the public to help while it still has a chance.

The renewed website, www.smcc.com.au is now more user friendly, and has many new features such as a list of all the people who have helped so far by sponsoring tiles, and a ‘pledge’ option where you can still get your name on the Wall, but only pay for your tiles when the club needs the money to pay for the land.

Ovens added, “We have added a lot more information too, which explains how far we have gotten, and how far we have to go, but basically we need your help! As time goes on we are finding more and more support, but on the flip side time is running out, it is all explained on the Big Picture Wall website. It is looking like we may get dollar for dollar funding, and possibly some support via short term finance, but we would still need to pay this off. We need to do what ever we can to secure this place, and getting your name on the Wall means you care, and it means we can do it!”

“We have sold 600 of the 10,000 tiles on the Wall, the owners of whom can be proud to say they helped save one of Australia’s iconic tracks while they had the chance. Now the website is completed, we want to make a big push for the rest of the year in our ‘Saving Barrabool’ campaign.

We are aiming to get to the $500,000 mark by Christmas, we hope people can see how this place can benefit us all. Giving is a good feeling. Get your name on that list of sponsors on the website and then feel proud to say “I helped Save Barrabool!”
